In the former parish of Šmarje we have two hamlets with the same name. Lisjaki.
Lisjak near Vrtovče is therefore also called Lisjak on the Hill. The hamlet is mostly considered part of Vrtovče, as it counts only half a dozen houses.
Lisjaki south of the river Branica, which are right next to Spodnja Branica, counts 15 houses. They belong to the municipality of Komen.
Both Lisjak are related to the surname Lisjak, which is found in these places. Possibly the Lisjaks, who moved to the valley, took with them the surname from which the name of the hamlet by the river Branica arose.
Both Lisjaki are part of the Planina parish, and until 2018 they were part of the Šmarje parish in the Vipava region. Prior to that, they belonged to the large parish and pre-parish of Vipava. The house names are taken from the family book (status animarum) of the parish of Šmarje from the 80s. In parentheses are the surnames found in the house in the 20th century.
The Vipavske House Names project was financially supported by the Municipality of Ajdovščina.
