Today marks the 60th birthday of Charles of Habsburg-Lorraine (Karl Thomas Robert Maria Franziskus Georg Bahnam of Habsburg-Lothringen), also known as Archduke Charles of Austria and currently head of the Habsburg family. He is the first in a succession to the title of Emperor of Austria and King of Hungary, the Czech Republic, Croatia, etc.
Charles of Habsburg was born on January 11, 1961 in Starnberg, Bavaria, where his family lived in exile. He is the eldest son and sixth child of Otto of Habsburg (1912-2011) and his wife Princess Regina of Saxony-Meiningen (1925-2010) and the grandson of our last Habsburg Emperor Charles I (1887-1922).
He completed his studies in law and philosophy, is a longtime member of the leadership of the Pan-European Union, and also served in the European Parliament (1996-1999) as a representative of the Austrian People's Party.
In 1993, he married a baroness, today Archduchess Francesco Thyssen-Bornemisza, with whom he has three children: Eleonora Helena (1994), Ferdinand Zvonimir (1997) and Gloria (1999). The family lives in Anif near Salzburg.
All good to the 60th birthday, Karl von Habsburg-Lothringen!
